AI-Assisted Scam Defrauds Thai Model Beauty Queen Charlotte Austin for USD 118.000



In a concerning turn of events, scammers have reportedly utilised artificial intelligence to impersonate Thai police officers, tricking unsuspecting victims. Among those affected is Charlotte Austin, a Thai-British beauty queen, who has been caught in this elaborate scheme.


Two men in Thailand have been arrested for allegedly operating an AI-assisted scam call center that defrauded Thai-British beauty queen Charlotte Austin of 4 million baht (USD 118.000), heightening fears about the increasing threat of technologically advanced fraud in the region.


Police have identified the suspects as 31-year-old Ramil Pantawong, who was captured in the Wang Nam Yen district of Sa Kaeo on Sunday, and 28-year-old Thanawut Kanyaphanthe, who was apprehended in the Bang Lamung district of Chon Buri on Monday.


They are accused of being part of a 50-member gang operating from a building in Poipet, a city in northern Cambodia near the Thai border.
